Description
SILOXANE MODIFIED PURE ACRYLIC CONCRETE SEALER
Deco-Guard is a cutting-edge hybrid technology sealer combining the decorative and protective qualities of a pure MMA acrylic with the extreme water and salt protection of a reactive penetrating sealant. Deco-Guard is specially designed for stamped and decorative concrete and offers superior resistance to water penetration, de-icing salts, salt water pool systems, snow and ice.
Deco-Guard is available in four unique versions to allow you to choose the specific qualities that are right for your specific project and location.
Deco-Guard (Low VOC 15%) is a fast-drying, solvent based, siloxane-modified, 15% solids sealer. Deco-Guard offers deep penetration and "Wet Look" color enhancement with a low-medium gloss finish.
Deco-Guard Plus (Low VOC 25%) is a fast-drying, solvent based, siloxane-modified, 25% solids sealer. Deco-Guard Plus offers a thicker coating with "Wet Look" color enhancement and a medium-high gloss finish.
Deco-Guard Plus (Standard VOC 25%) is a slower-drying, solvent based, siloxane-modified, 25% solids sealer. Deco-Guard Plus offers a thicker coating with "Wet Look" color enhancement and a medium-high gloss finish.
Deco-Guard WB is a water based, siloxane-modified, 15% solids sealer. Deco-Guard WB offers a water based option with minimal color enhancement for a more natural appearance with a low-medium gloss finish.
All versions of Deco-Guard are fully UV stable, which means they will never yellow from UV exposure like cheap styrene-acrylics. Although we always recommend sealers only be applied to concrete that is fully cured (28+ days), Deco-Guard does meet ASTM specifications, and with proper application under proper conditions may be applied to freshly placed concrete. Deco-Guard is one of our most user-friendly, longest lasting and easy to apply acrylics. It offers easy application by roller or sprayer.

Deco-Guard
Deco-Guard is our longest lasting acrylic for outdoor decorative concrete! It provides amazing protection and is easy to apply and maintain.
Deco-Guard is available in four different versions to allow you to choose the specific qualities that are right for your specific project and location. Be sure to choose the version that best fits your needs and/or requirements.
The two "low VOC" solvent-based versions accommodate VOC laws in most regulated areas of the U.S. Unfortunately, like most "low VOC" solvent-based products these "low VOC" versions dry faster than traditional higher VOC acrylics. For this reason we recommend special care be taken to avoid application in hot temperatures or direct sunlight.
The standard VOC solvent-based version dries slower and is much more user friendly than the "low VOC" versions. This is the version we typically recommend if you aren't in a regulated area and don't specifically need a fast drying sealer. Also, unlike the "low VOC" versions, the Std VOC version is not classified by DOT as "Flammable". This saves you $$ since it doesn't require expensive HAZMAT packaging and shipping.
The Water-Based version is legal for sale in all areas of the U.S.
All three Solvent-Based versions are compatible with many other similar solvent-based acrylics that may already exist on previously sealed concrete. Solvent-based acrylics should never be applied over any existing water-based sealer. If your concrete has an existing water-based sealer, it must be removed before applying Deco-Guard or Deco-Guard Plus. In some cases Deco-Guard WB may be used over other water-based acrylics as a re-seal, but that process isn't necessarily recommended.
Cleaning and Preparation Instructions
4. Allow area to dry completely.
Application Instructions
Always test in an inconspicuous area before use to ensure compatibility and desired results!
Make sure all sprinklers are turned off for a 24 hour period of time. Apply Deco-Guard only if rain is not expected for at least 24 hours. Do not apply Deco-Guard if surface temperature is below 40° F., or above 80° F. If possible always apply as concrete is cooling, rather than as concrete is warming. Warming by the sun causes the air inside the concrete to expand and push out through the surface, often causing bubbles in the still wet sealer.
CLEAN UP: (WATER-BASED VERSION): Clean up tools with warm soapy water.
Of course, having the right tools will make your job easier, so scroll to the bottom to see our recommended Sprayers, Rollers and Application Tools!
Coverage Rates
Coverage rates are approximate and will vary depending on substrate density, porosity, temperature, application method and desired appearance. In most cases, two coats are recommended. Total project estimate includes both coats, and is on average how much total product you should apply to each type of surface. Coverage rates are based on fully cured, bare, clean, dry, un-sealed surfaces.
Exposed Aggregate: 100-125 sq. ft. / gallon (total project estimate)
1st coat - 175-225 sq. ft / gallon
2nd coat - 225-275 sq. ft / gallon
Broom Swept Concrete: 125-150 sq. ft. / gallon (total project estimate)
1st coat - 225-275 sq. ft / gallon
2nd coat - 275-325 sq. ft / gallon
Stamped Concrete: 150-175 sq. ft. / gallon (total project estimate)
1st coat - 275-325 sq. ft / gallon
2nd coat - 325-375 sq. ft / gallon
Troweled Concrete: 150-200 sq. ft. / gallon (total project estimate)
1st coat - 250-350 sq. ft / gallon
2nd coat - 350-450 sq. ft / gallon
PLEASE NOTE: When using as a curing compound, apply only one coat at a rate of 200-300 sq. ft. / gallon to meet specifications. Extreme bubbling and/or hazing may occur due to lack of permeability.
Maintenance
Like all things, maintaining optimal protection of a sealed surface requires scheduled maintenance. Once properly applied, surfaces sealed with Deco-Guard may periodically require a light cleaning to remove dirt, dust, mud, etc. In most cases, low pressure water is all that is needed for routine cleaning. Do not use a hot-water pressure washer unless you are preparing to apply a maintenance coat of Deco-Guard. Re-seal surface every two years or as needed to prevent buildup of sealer.
FAQ's
Why is the Standard VOC Version less expensive?
The Standard VOC version contains traditional slower evaporating solvents like A-100 and Xylene. This allows it to ship without the expensive HAZMAT classification and packaging.
